"And warn them of the Day of the Imminent (Al-Azifah)," meaning: the Resurrection. "When the hearts are at the throats, suppressing grief." Qatada said: The hearts are pulled upward and get choked in the throats, so they neither emerge nor return to their places.
﴿وَأَنْذرهُمْ يَوْم الآزفة﴾ يَعْنِي: الْقِيَامَة ﴿إِذِ الْقُلُوبُ لَدَى الْحَنَاجِر كاظمين﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: انتزعت الْقُلُوب فغصّت بهَا الْحَنَاجِر , فَلَا هِيَ تخرج وَلَا هِيَ ترجع إِلَى أماكنها.
