"They said: Kill the sons of those who believed with him"—meaning: those who believed him—"and keep their women alive"—meaning: do not kill them—"and the plot of the disbelievers is in nothing but error," meaning it will vanish and come to nothing; that is, in the end.
﴿قَالُوا اقْتُلُوا أَبْنَاءَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَه﴾ أَي: صدقوه ﴿واستحيوا نِسَاءَهُمْ﴾ أَي: لَا تقتلوهن ﴿وَمَا كَيْدُ الْكَافرين إِلَّا فِي ضلال﴾ يذهب فَلَا يكون شَيْئا؛ أَي: فِي الْعَاقِبَة.
