"And Yusuf certainly came to you before"—that is, before Moses—"with clear proofs, so when he perished, you said, 'Allah will never send a messenger after him'"—meaning, that he was not a messenger, so Allah will never (f. 304) send a messenger after him—"Thus does Allah let go astray he who is an extravagant"—a polytheist—"skeptic"—in doubt regarding the resurrection.
﴿وَلَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ يُوسُفُ مِنْ قَبْلُ﴾ أَي: من قبل مُوسَى ﴿بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ حَتَّى إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَن يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ رَسُولاً﴾ أَي: أَنَّهُ لم يكن برَسُول , فَلَنْ (ل ٣٠٤) يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ رَسُولا ﴿كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِف﴾ مُشْرك ﴿مرتاب﴾ فِي شكّ من الْبَعْث.
