"Indeed, those who deviate from Our verses." Al-Kalbi said: Meaning, they incline away from the truth.
Muhammad said: The meaning of "deviate" (yulhidun) is that they interpret the speech in a way other than its intended direction, and this is the view of Al-Kalbi. From this comes the word "lahd" (niche), because it is digging into the side of the grave. It is said: "lahada" and "alhada" are of the same meaning.
"Is one who is cast into the Fire better, or one who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection?" meaning: the one who comes secure is better. "Work as you wish; indeed, He is Seeing of what you do." This is a threat.
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا﴾ قَالَ الْكَلْبِيّ: يَعْنِي: يميلون إِلَى غير الْحق.
قَالَ محمدٌ: معنى يلحدون يجْعَلُونَ الْكَلَام على غير جِهَته , وَهُوَ مَذْهَب الْكَلْبِيّ , وَمن هَذَا اللَّحْد؛ لِأَنَّهُ الْحفر فِي جَانب الْقَبْر , يُقَال: لحد وألحد [بِمَعْنى] وَاحِد.
﴿أَفَمَن يُلْقَى فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ أمَّن يَأْتِي آمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ﴾ أَي إِن الَّذِي يَأْتِي آمنا خير ﴿اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِير﴾ وَهَذَا وَعِيد
