Allah says: "And they will have lost what they used to invoke before," in the worldly life; their idols that they used to worship will have abandoned them, so they will not respond to them.
Muhammad said: "Adhannaka" (we inform You) has the reality in the language of: we make You know.
"And they realized"—meaning they knew—"there is no place of escape for them," meaning no refuge.
قَالَ الله: ﴿وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يدعونَ من قبل﴾ فِي الدُّنْيَا؛ ضلت عَنْهُم أوثانهم الَّتِي كَانُوا يعْبدُونَ , فَلَنْ تَسْتَجِيب لَهُم.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: (آذناك) حَقِيقَته فِي اللُّغَة: أعلمناك.
﴿وَظَنُّوا﴾ علمُوا ﴿مَا لَهُمْ مِنْ مَحِيصٍ﴾ من ملْجأ.
