Translation · EN

"Should We turn the Remembrance away from you," meaning: the Quran, "in disregard?" The interpretation of al-Kalbi says: Shall We abandon the Remembrance because of you? "Because you are a people who are excessive," meaning: polytheists; that is: We shall not abandon it.

Muhammad said: It is recited "an kuntum" (that you are) with a fathah (on the hamzah) and with a kasrah. As for the one who recites with a fathah, the meaning is: because you are. As for the one who recites with a kasrah, it is based on the conditional (istiqbal); the meaning is: if you are excessive, We shall turn the Remembrance away from you.

It is said: "darabtu 'anhu al-dhikra" (I turned the Remembrance away from him) and "adrabtu" (I turned away) carry the same meaning when one refrains. And His saying:

﴿أفنضرب عَنْكُم الذّكر﴾ يَعْنِي: الْقُرْآن ﴿صفحا﴾ تَفْسِير الْكَلْبِيّ يَقُول: أَنَذَرُ الذّكْرَ من أجلكم؟! ﴿أَنْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا مسرفين﴾ مُشْرِكين أَي: لَا نَذَرُه.

قَالَ مُحَمَّد: تقْرَأ ﴿إِن كُنْتُم﴾ بِالْفَتْح وبالكسر , فَمن فتح فَالْمَعْنى: لِأَن كُنْتُم وَمن كسر فعلى الِاسْتِقْبَال؛ الْمَعْنى: إِن تَكُونُوا مسرفين نضرب عَنْكُم الذّكر.

وَيُقَال: ضربْتُ عَنهُ الذّكر وأضْربتُ بِمَعْنى وَاحِد إِذا امسكت. وَقَوله:
