Then he resumed the speech and said: "Or am I better"—meaning, rather, I am better—"than this one who is insignificant [mahin]"—weak—"and hardly makes things clear?"—meaning: the impediment that was in his tongue from the coal he placed in his mouth when he was a child upon grabbing Pharaoh's beard, and we have already mentioned that before this.
ثمَّ اسْتَأْنف الْكَلَام فَقَالَ: ﴿أَمْ أَنا خير﴾ أَي: بل أَنا خيرٌ ﴿مِنْ هَذَا الَّذِي هُوَ مهين﴾ ضَعِيف ﴿وَلَا يكَاد يبين﴾ يَعْنِي: الْعقْدَة الَّتِي كَانَت فِي لِسَانه من الْجَمْرَة الَّتِي أَلْقَاهَا فِي فِيهِ وَهُوَ صَغِير حِين تنَاول لحية فِرْعَوْن، وَقد ذكرنَا ذَلِك قبل هَذَا
