Translation · EN

"[Like the boiling of scalding water]" means: water that is intensely hot. "[Seize him and drag him]" Al-Hasan said: meaning: pull him [forcibly] "[into the midst of the Hellfire]" the center of Hell.

Muhammad said: "At-atl" (dragging) in the language means to lead someone away with force and intensity. It is said, for example: 'atala' (he dragged), 'ya'tulu' (he drags); and there is another linguistic form: 'ya'tilu'.

﴿كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ﴾ يَعْنِي: المَاء الشَّديد الْحر ﴿خذوه فاعتلوه﴾ قَالَ الْحسن: يَعْنِي: فجرُّوه ﴿إِلَى سَوَاء الْجَحِيم﴾ وسط الْجَحِيم.

قَالَ محمدٌ: العَتْلُ فِي اللُّغَة أَن يُمْضَى بِهِ بعنْفٍ وَشدَّة، يُقَال مِنْهُ: عتَلَ يَعْتُلُ، وَفِيه لُغَة أُخْرَى: يَعْتِلُ.
