"[Taste! Indeed, you are the mighty, the noble]" means: the powerful, the noble in your own estimation, since you were in the world and you were not truly so. Some of them said: It was revealed regarding Abu Jahl, for he used to say: "I am the mightiest and the noblest of the Quraysh."
﴿ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ﴾ يَعْنِي: المنيع الْكَرِيم عِنْد نَفسك، إِذْ كنت فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلست كَذَلِك، قَالَ بَعضهم: نزلت فِي أبي جهل كَانَ يَقُول: أَنا أعز قُرَيْش وَأَكْرمهَا
