[Gather] meaning: drive [those who committed injustice], meaning: those who committed shirk (polytheism), [and their partners (azwajahum)]. Al-Hasan said: meaning the devils who called them to the worship of idols.
Muhammad said: The Arabs say, 'I coupled (zawwajtu) my camels,' when I paired one with another.
﴿احشروا﴾ أَي: سوقوا ﴿الَّذين ظلمُوا﴾ أشركوا ﴿وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: الشَّيَاطِينَ الَّذِينَ دَعَوْا إِلَى عبَادَة الْأَوْثَان.
قَالَ محمدٌ: تَقُولُ الْعَرَب: زوّجْتُ إبلي إِذا قرنت وَاحِدًا بآخر.
