And His saying: "And they say, 'There is nothing but our life of this world; we die and we live'" (45:24) meaning: we die and we are born.
Muhammad said: The meaning is: a people die and a people live; this is what Yahya intended.
"And nothing destroys us except time" (45:24) i.e., age, meaning: that is how it was for those before us, and likewise we are.
His saying: "But they have no knowledge of that" (45:24) that they will not be resurrected. "They are only guessing" (45:24) their statement is nothing but conjecture.
Muhammad said: "In" (the particle) is in the meaning of "ma" (the negative particle), i.e., they are only guessing.
Interpretation of Surah Al-Jathiyah from verse 25 to verse 28.
وَقَوله: ﴿وَقَالُوا مَا هِيَ إِلا حياتنا الدُّنْيَا نموت ونحيا﴾ أَي: نموت ونُولَد.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْمَعْنى: يَمُوت قومٌ ويحيا قومٌ؛ وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَرَادَ يحيى.
﴿وَمَا يُهْلِكنَا إِلَّا الدَّهْر﴾ الزَّمَان، أَي: هَكَذَا كَانَ من قبلنَا، وَكَذَلِكَ نَحن.
قَوْله: ﴿وَمَا لَهُم بذلك من علم﴾ بِأَنَّهُم لَا يبعثون ﴿إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يظنون﴾ إِن ذَلِك مِنْهُم إِلَّا ظن.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد (إِن) بِمَعْنى (مَا) أَي: مَا هم إِلَّا يظنون.
