{Indeed, those who reverted to their backs [in disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them} after they had been given faith and the proof had been established against them through the Prophet and the Qur'an, meaning: the hypocrites. {Satan enticed them} {embellished for them} {and prolonged hope for them}. Al-Hasan said: Meaning, he whispered to them.
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ ارْتَدُّوا عَلَى أَدْبَارِهِم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْهُدَى﴾ من بعد مَا أعْطوا الْإِيمَان، وَقَامَت عَلَيْهِم الْحجَّة بِالنَّبِيِّ وَالْقُرْآن، يَعْنِي: الْمُنَافِقين ﴿الشَّيْطَانُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمْ﴾ ﴿زين لَهُم﴾ (وَأَمْلَى لَهُمْ﴾ قَالَ الْحسن: يَعْنِي: وسوس
