Translation · EN

His saying: "The worldly life is but play and amusement," meaning: the people of this world—that is, the polytheists who desire nothing else—are people of amusement and play.

"And if you believe and fear Allah, He will give you your rewards," meaning your recompense, "and He does not ask you for your wealth," meaning the Prophet.

قَوْله: ﴿إِنَّمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهو﴾ أَي: إِن أهل الدُّنْيَا؛ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين الَّذين لَا يُرِيدُونَ غَيرهَا أهل لَهْوٍ ولعبٍ.

﴿وَإِنْ تُؤْمِنُوا وتتقوا يُؤْتكُم أجوركم﴾ ثوابكم ﴿وَلَا يسألكم أَمْوَالكُم﴾ يَعْنِي: النَّبِي
