Translation · EN

"O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people" (al-Hujurat: 11). Interpretation of Mujahid: Let not a people mock a people, nor men mock men, "perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women mock women, perhaps they may be better than them; and do not insult one another," meaning: let not some of you slander others. "And do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames" (al-Hujurat: 11). Interpretation of al-Hasan: A man says to a man - he was previously a Jew

﴿يَا أَيهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَومٌ من قوم﴾ تَفْسِير مُجَاهِد: لَا يهزأ قوم بِقوم وَرِجَال من رجال ﴿عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَلا نِسَاءٌ مِنْ نِسَاءٍ عَسَى أَنْ يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِنْهُنَّ وَلا تَلْمِزُوا أَنفسكُم﴾ أَي: لَا يطعن بعضُكُم على بعض ﴿وَلَا تنابزوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ﴾ تَفْسِير الْحسن: يَقُول الرّجُل للرجل - قد كَانَ يهوديًّا
