[And We are closer to him than the jugular vein], which is the connective tissue (niyat) of the heart.
Muhammad said: The "warid" (vein) is a vein inside the neck, and the "habl" (cord/rope) is the vein itself; it was appended to itself due to the difference in the wording of its name.
﴿وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الوريد﴾ وَهُوَ نِيَاط الْقلب.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الوريد عرقٌ فِي بَاطِن الْعُنُق، وَالْحَبل هُوَ الوريد؛ فأضيف إِلَى نَفسه لاخْتِلَاف لَفْظِي اسْمه.
