“And the stupor of death will come with the truth,” meaning: the resurrection; i.e., he dies to be resurrected. Regarding His saying: “That is what you were trying to avoid,” meaning: escaping. Al-Hasan said: He is the disbeliever, for there was nothing more hateful to him than death.
﴿وَجَاءَت سكرة الْمَوْت بِالْحَقِّ﴾ بِالْبَعْثِ؛ أَي: يَمُوت ليَبْعَث. قَوْله: ﴿ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ﴾ تهرب، قَالَ الْحسن: هُوَ الْكَافِر لم يكن شَيْء أبْغض إِلَيْهِ من الْمَوْت
