"That We may make it a reminder for you," so they may remember that everyone on the earth drowned except those on the ship. "And that a listening ear may hear it and retain it," meaning: mindful; this is the ear of the believer who heard the reminder and retained it in his heart.
﴿لنجعلها لكم تذكرة﴾ فَيَذْكُرُونَ أَنَّ جَمِيعَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ غَرِقَ غَيْرَ أَهْلِ السَّفينة ﴿وَتَعيهَا أذن وَاعِيَة﴾ حَافِظَةٌ؛ وَهِيَ أُذُنُ الْمُؤْمِنِ سَمِعَ التَّذْكِرَةَ فَوَعَاهَا بِقَلْبِهِ
