"The day the sky will be" (yawma takunu as-sama'), meaning: that is the day the sky will be "like dregs of oil" (kal-muhl), like the sediment of oil, in the tafsir of Zayd ibn Aslam.
﴿يَوْم تكون السَّمَاء﴾ أَيْ: ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ ﴿كَالْمهْلِ﴾ كَعَكرِ الزَّيْت؛ فِي تَفْسِير زيد بن أسلم
