Translation · EN

"And the idols (al-rujz), forsake [them]" (Wa-l-rujza fa-hjur) means: The idols; do not worship them.

Muhammad said: The root of al-rujz is punishment, and thus the idols were named 'rujz' because they lead to punishment.

﴿وَالرجز فاهجر﴾ يَعْنِي: الْأَوْثَانِ لَا تعْبُدْها.

قَالَ محمدٌ: أَصْلُ الرُّجْزِ: الْعَذَابُ، فَسُمِّيَتِ الْأَوْثَانُ رِجْزًا، لِأَنَّهَا تُؤَدِّي إِلَى الْعَذَاب.
