(Then he went to his people, walking with pride), meaning: swaggering.
Muhammad said: His saying: (He walks with pride) is originally "yatamattatu" (stretching/walking with agitation); the "ta" was changed to a "ya", just as they say "yatazanna" (to suspect), while its origin is "yatazannanu". Tafsir of Surat al-Qiyamah from verse (34-40).
﴿ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّى﴾ يَتَبَخْتَرُ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قَوْلُهُ: ﴿يَتَمَطَّى﴾ أَصْلُهُ: يتمطَّطُ؛ فَقُلِبَتِ الطَّاءُ يَاءً، كَمَا قَالُوا: يتظنَّى وَأَصْلُهُ: يتظنَّنُ. تَفْسِير سُورَة الْقِيَامَة من آيَة (٣٤ - ٤٠)
