Translation · EN

[A day, frowning and distressful]. Some of them said: It means that faces will frown on that day, and 'al-qamtarir' refers to something severe.

Muhammad said: It is said to one who frowns: 'qamtarir' and 'qumatir'.

﴿يَوْمًا عبوسا قمطريرا﴾ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: يَعْنِي: تَعْبَسُ فِيهِ الْوُجُوهُ، وَالْقَمْطَرِيرُ: الشَّدِيدُ.

قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يُقَالُ لِلْمُعْبَسِ الْوَجْهَ: قمطريرٌ وقُمَاطِرٌ.
