Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 5 · Page 52816

Translation · EN

[Noble, dutiful], who do not disobey Allah.

Muhammad said: The singular of 'safara' (scribes) is 'safir', like 'katib' (writer) and 'kataba' (writers). It is said that books are called 'sifr' and the writer is called 'safir' because its meaning is to manifest and clarify a thing. From this comes the saying: 'safarat al-mar'ah' (the woman unveiled), when she removes the niqab from her face. 'Barara' is the plural of 'barr' (dutiful).
