Translation · EN

"Those who, when they take the measure from people, take it in full, but if they measure for them or weigh for them, they cause loss."

Muhammad said: "Woe" is in the nominative case as the subject (mubtada'), and the predicate is "to those who give less [than due]." "Woe" (wayl) is a word said to everyone who has fallen into punishment and destruction. The "mutaffifun" (those who give less than due) are those who diminish the measure and the scale. His saying "from the people" (ala al-nas) means: from among the people.

﴿الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يخسرون﴾

قَالَ مُحَمَّد: ﴿ويل﴾ رفع بِالِابْتِدَاءِ، وَالْخَبَر ﴿لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ﴾ وَالْوَيْلُ كَلِمَةٌ تُقَالُ لِكُلِّ مَنْ وَقَعَ فِي عَذَابٍ وَهَلَكَةٍ، وَالْمُطَفِّفُونَ: الَّذِينَ يَنْقُصُونَ الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ، وَقَوْلُهُ: ﴿على النَّاس﴾ أَي: من النَّاس
