"Indeed, those who committed crimes"—meaning they associated partners with Allah—"used to laugh at those who believed" in the worldly life, that is: they used to mock them.
﴿إِن الَّذين أجرموا﴾ أَشْرَكُوا ﴿كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ﴾ فِي الدُّنْيَا، أَيْ: يَسْخَرُونَ بِهِمْ
