Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 5 · Page 6984

Translation · EN

"And Who brought forth the pasturage, then made it dark stubble." This contains a transposition, meaning: "then made it dark, stubble." According to al-Hasan, the "dark" (ahwa) is that which is black due to intense greenness, and the "stubble" (ghutha') is the dry, crushed vegetation; it is like His saying: "and it became dry stubble that the winds scatter," meaning: it became dry stubble after it had been green.
