"They have no food except from a thorny plant" (laysa lahum ta'amun illa min dari'): Al-Kalbi said: It is a plant that grows in the spring. When summer arrives, it dries up; if it has its leaves on it, its name is [shibraq]. When its leaves fall off, it is called al-dari'. Camels eat it while it is green, but when it dries up, they will not taste it.
﴿لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلا مِنْ ضَرِيع﴾ قَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ: نَبْتٌ يَنْبُتُ فِي الرَّبِيعِ، فَإِذَا كَانَ فِي الصَّيْفِ يَبِسَ فَاسْمُهُ إِذَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وَرَقُهُ: [شِبْرَقٌ] وَإِذَا تَسَاقَطَ وَرَقُهُ فَهُوَ الضَّرِيعُ، فَالْإِبِلُ تَأْكُلُهُ أَخْضَرَ، فَإِذا يبس لم تذقه.
