"And Pharaoh, lord of the stakes": meaning, and how he was dealt with, Pharaoh, lord of the stakes: He destroyed him by drowning. He used to, when he became angry with someone, drive four stakes into the ground for him upon his hands and feet.

﴿وَفرْعَوْن ذِي الْأَوْتَاد﴾ أَيْ: وَكَيْفَ فُعِلَ بِفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ: أَهْلَكَهُ بِالْغَرَقِ، وَكَانَ إِذَا غضب عَلَى أحدٍ أوتد لَهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَوْتَادٍ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ
