And they went out in the morning having the power to prevent, meaning with firm resolve regarding their affair, "having power" over their garden in their own estimation.
Muhammad said: "Al-hard" in the language also means prevention. It is said in this regard, "The year has "haradat" (failed)" if there is no rain in it, and "The she-camel has "haradat" (held back)" if there is no milk in it.
﴿وغدوا على حرد قَادِرين﴾ عَلَى جدٍّ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ ﴿قَادِرِينَ﴾ عَلَى جَنَّتِهِمْ فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَالْحَرْدُ أَيْضًا فِي اللُّغَةِ الْمَنْعُ، يُقَالُ مِنْهُ حَارَدَتِ السَّنَةُ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا مَطَرٌ، وَحَارَدَتِ النَّاقَةُ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا لبن (٢).
