"Such is the punishment," meaning: thus was the punishment, just as I have related to you. He means: that with which He punished them, namely the destruction of their garden. "And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater" than the punishment of the world. "If only they knew," meaning: Quraish. He returned to His saying: "Indeed, We have tested them," meaning: Quraish. "If only they knew," meaning: had they known, they would have known that the punishment of the Hereafter is greater than the punishment of the world. Tafsir of Surah Al-Qalam from verses (34-35).
﴿كَذَلِك الْعَذَاب﴾ أَيْ: هَكَذَا كَانَ الْعَذَابُ؛ كَمَا قَصَصْتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَعْنِي: مَا عَذَّبَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ إِهْلاكِ جَنَّتِهِمْ ﴿وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ﴾ مِنْ عَذَابِ الدُّنْيَا ﴿لَو كَانُوا يعلمُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: قُرَيْشًا، رَجَعَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: ﴿إِنَّا بلوناهم﴾ يَعْنِي: قُرَيْشًا ﴿لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ﴾ لعلموا أَن عَذَاب الْآخِرَة أكبر من عَذَاب الدُّنْيَا. تَفْسِير سُورَة الْقَلَم من آيَة (٣٤ - ٣٥)
