His saying: {The Striking Calamity. What is the Striking Calamity?} He thereby magnifies it, and it is one of the names of the Resurrection.
Muhammad said: It was named so because it strikes with terrors; it is said: 'The calamities of time have befallen them.'
قَوْلُهُ: ﴿الْقَارِعَةُ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ﴾ يُعَظِّمُهَا بِذَلِكَ، وَهُوَ اسْمٌ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ الْقِيَامَةِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: سُمِّيَتْ بِذَلِكَ؛ لِأَنَّهَا تَقْرَعُ بِالْأَهْوَالِ؛ يُقَالُ: أَصَابَتْهُم قوارع الدَّهْر.
