Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 5 · Page 9143

Translation · EN

"With their eyes humbled," meaning: abased. And the hypocrites will be left with their backs as a single board, as if there were skewers within them, so they will say: 'Our Lord!' He will say: 'You have lied. You were called to prostrate while you were sound,' and that is because their prostration in the world was not for the sake of Allah; it was only out of ostentation, so that they might not be killed and their offspring might not be taken captive.
