"O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire"—the verse. Zayd ibn Aslam said: "When this verse was revealed, they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we can protect ourselves, but how can we protect our families?' He replied: 'You command them to obey Allah.'"
His saying: "whose fuel is people" means: its firewood is people. "And stones" means: in the interpretation of Al-Hasan, it eats people and eats stones; and they are stones of red sulfur. "Over it are angels, harsh and severe" against the enemies of Allah.
Abu al-Awwam said: The angel among them has in his hand a mace of iron with two prongs with which he strikes a single blow, causing seventy thousand [souls] to fall down because of it. Interpretation of Surah At-Tahrim from verses 7-9.
