[The fifth interpretation]

584 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And say, 'Hittah' (Repentance)," al-Hasan and Qatadah said: That is, 'Remove our sins from us.'

His saying: "We will forgive you your sins"

585 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "We will forgive you your sins," he said: Whoever was a sinner, I forgave him his sin.

His saying: "And We will increase the doers of good"

586 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We will increase the doers of good," he said: Whoever was a doer of good, he was increased in his good.

His saying: "But those who wronged changed [those words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them"

587 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Hammam ibn Munabbih, that he heard Abu Hurayrah saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: (Allah said) to the Children of Israel: "Enter the gate bowing and say, 'Hittah' (Repentance); We will forgive you your sins," but they changed it, so they entered the gate crawling on their buttocks, and they said: "A grain of wheat in a hair."

588 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Suddi, from Abu Sa'id al-Azdi, from Abu al-Kanud: "And say, 'Hittah' (Repentance)," so they said: "Wheat, a red grain in which there is a hair," so Allah sent down: "But those who wronged changed [those words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them."

589 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, he said: Asbat claimed from al-Suddi, from Murrah al-Hamdani, from Ibn Mas'ud that he said: They said (hatty samqatha azbah mazba). In Arabic, that is: A red grain of wheat, bored through, containing a hair, and that is His saying: "But those who wronged changed [those words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them."

590 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying:
