Translation · EN

His saying: "And when Moses asked for water for his people."

597 - Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah al-Munadi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad al-Mu'addib narrated to us, Shayban al-Nahwi narrated to us from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And when Moses asked for water for his people," he said: Moses asked for water, and he was commanded regarding a stone to strike it with his staff.

His saying: "So We said, 'Strike with your staff the stone.'"

598 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Wasiti and Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us—the wording is Muhammad's—from Asbagh ibn Zayd al-Warraq from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn 'Abbas; he said: He placed a square stone among them, and he commanded Moses, so he struck it with his staff.

599 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Thalj narrated to us, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Fudayl informed us from 'Atiyyah al-'Awfi: He placed for them a stone like the head of an ox, which would be carried upon an ox; whenever they reached a place to camp, they would set it down, and Moses would strike it with his staff, and twelve springs would gush forth from it, and the water would remain steady.

600 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Damrah narrated to us from 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' from his father, he said: The Children of Israel had a stone, and Aaron would set it down and Moses would strike it with his staff.

601 - Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah al-Munadi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad al-Mu'addib narrated to us, Shayban al-Nahwi narrated to us from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And when Moses asked for water for his people, so We said, 'Strike with your staff the stone.'" He said: He was commanded regarding a stone to strike it with his staff, and it was a stone from Tur (Mount Sinai), which they would carry with them; whenever they would stop, Moses would strike it with his staff.

His saying: "There gushed forth from it twelve springs."

602 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Wasiti and Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us—the wording is Muhammad's—from Asbagh ibn Zayd al-Warraq from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me from Ibn 'Abbas: "There gushed forth from it twelve springs," in every side of it were three springs.

603 - Abu al-Azhar al-Naysaburi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us from 'Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Dahhak, he said: Ibn 'Abbas said: When the Children of Israel were in the wilderness, he split for them rivers from the stone.

قوله: وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ

٥٩٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ثنا شَيْبَانُ النَّحْوِيُّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ فَاسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى، فَأُمِرَ بِحَجَرٍ أَنْ يَضْرِبَهُ بِعَصَاهُ.

قوله: فَقُلْنَا اضْرِبْ بِعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ

٥٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ وَاللَّفْظُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ- عَنْ أَصْبَغِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْوَرَّاقِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ أَبِي أيوب عن سعيد ابن جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ حَجَرًا مُرَبَّعًا وَأَمَرَ مُوسَى فَضَرَبَهُ بِعَصَاهُ.

٥٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الثَّلْجِ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَ فُضَيْلٌ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ الْعَوْفِيِّ: وَجَعَلَ لَهُمْ حَجَرًا مِثْلَ رَأْسِ الثَّوْرِ يُحْمَلُ عَلَى ثَوْرٍ، فَإِذَا نَزَلُوا مَنْزِلا وَضَعُوهُ، فَضَرَبَهُ مُوسَى بِعَصَاهُ فَانْفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًا، فَاسْتَمْسَكَ الْمَاءُ.

٦٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ ثنا آدَمُ ثنا ضَمْرَةُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ حَجَرٌ، فَكَانَ يَضَعُهُ هَارُونُ وَيَضْرِبُهُ مُوسَى بِعَصَاهُ.

٦٠١ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ثنا شَيْبَانُ النَّحْوِيُّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ: قَوْلُهُ: وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ فَقُلْنَا اضْرِبْ بِعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ فَأُمِرَ بِحَجَرٍ أَنْ يَضْرِبَهُ بِعَصَاهُ، وَكَانَ حَجَرًا طُورِيًّا مِنَ الطُّورِ يَحْمِلُونَهُ مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا نَزَلُوا ضَرَبَهُ مُوسَى بِعَصَاهُ.

قَوْلُهُ: فَانْفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًا

٦٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ- وَاللَّفْظُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ- عَنْ أَصْبَغِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْوَرَّاقِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: فَانْفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًا فِي كُلِّ نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْهُ ثَلاثُ عُيُونٍ.

٦٠٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الأَزْهَرِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ثنا أَبِي عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: لَمَّا كَانَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي التِّيهِ شَقَّ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْحَجَرِ أَنْهَارًا.
