His saying: "Woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, then say, 'This is from Allah,' in order to purchase a small price with it." He said: Some people among the Children of Israel wrote books with their own hands to consume [the wealth of] the people, so they said: "This is from Allah," while it was not from Allah.
809 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me from 'Abbad ibn Mansur from al-Hasan: regarding His saying: "in order to purchase a small price with it," [meaning] a lie and wickedness, and it is not from Allah. He said: "And they speak a lie about Allah while they know."
His saying: "a small price"
810 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Hamzah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us from Ibn al-Mubarak, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir informed us from Harun ibn Yazid, who said: Al-Hasan was asked about His saying: "a small price." He said: "The small price is the world in its entirety."
His saying: "And woe to them for what their hands have written"
811 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us from al-Rabi' from Abu al-'Aliyah, who said: They deliberately took what Allah had revealed in their Book regarding the description of Muhammad—may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—and distorted it from its proper meanings, seeking thereby the benefits of the world. Allah, the Exalted, said: "And woe to them for what their hands have written."
His saying: "And woe to them for what they earn"
812 - 'Isam narrated to us via the same chain from Abu al-'Aliyah: "And woe to them for what they earn," meaning from sin.
His saying: "And they said, 'The Fire will not touch us except for a limited number of days.'"
[The First Aspect]
813 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: In what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me from Sa'id ibn Jubayr or 'Ikrimah from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The Messenger of Allah—may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—arrived in Medina, and the Jews were saying: "The duration of the world is seven thousand years, and the people will only be punished for one day in the Fire, out of the days of the Hereafter, for every thousand years of the days of the world; so it is only seven days, then the punishment will cease." So Allah, the Exalted, revealed concerning that statement of theirs: "And they said, 'The Fire will not touch us except for a limited number of days.'" And another statement was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas.
