of both of them, they would gather for him until they ransomed him. The Arabs would reproach them for that, saying: "How can you fight them and then ransom them?" They replied: "We were commanded to ransom them, and fighting them is forbidden to us." They said: "We are ashamed that our allies are brought as evidence against us." That is when Allah reproached them, saying: "Then you are those who kill your own people and evict a party of your own people from their homes."
858 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas: "Then you are those who kill your own people," he says: Some of you kill others. It was narrated from al-Hasan and Qatadah similar to that.
His saying: "And evict a party of your own people from their homes"
859 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr or 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And evict a party of your own people from their homes," he said: They evict them from their homes along with them. It was narrated from al-Hasan and Qatadah similar to that.
His saying: "Backing one another against them in sin and aggression"
860 - With the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas: "Backing one another against them in sin and aggression," he said: When there was a war between the Aws and the Khazraj, the Banu Qaynuqa' would go out with the Khazraj, and the Nadir and the Qurayzah would go out with the Aws. Each of the two factions would back its allies against its brothers until they shed their blood among themselves.
861 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Hamdan ibn al-Walid al-Basri (meaning al-Busri) narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ja'far (meaning Ghundar) narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Suddi, he said: This verse was revealed regarding Qays ibn al-Khatim: "Then you are those who kill your own people and evict a party of your own people from their homes, backing one another against them in sin and aggression."

كِلَيْهِمَا «١» جَمَعُوا لَهُ حَتَّى يُفْدُوهُ فَتُعَيِّرُهُمُ الْعَرَبُ بِذَلِكَ، وَيَقُولُونَ: كَيْفَ تُقَاتِلُونَهُمْ وَتُفْدُونَهُمْ، قَالُوا: أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَفْدِيَهُمْ وحرم علينا قتالهم «٢» قالوا: إنا نستحي أن يستدل بِحُلَفَائِنَا. فَذَلِكَ حِينَ عَيَّرَهُمُ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ: ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ هَؤُلَاءِ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ
٨٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّشْتَكِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ: ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ هَؤُلاءِ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ يَقُولُ: يَقْتُلُ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا.
وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَقَتَادَةَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ
٨٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، أَوْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ:
وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ قَالَ: يُخْرِجُونَهُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ مَعَهُمْ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، وَقَتَادَةَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ: تَظَاهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
٨٦٠ - بِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ تَظَاهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ قَالَ: فَكَانُوا إِذَا كَانَ بَيْنَ الأَوْسِ وَالْخَزْرَجِ حَرْبٌ خَرَجَتْ بَنُو قَيْنُقَاعٍ مَعَ الْخَزْرَجِ، وَخَرَجْتِ النَّضِيرُ وَقُرَيْظَةُ مَعَ الأَوْسِ، يُظَاهِرُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ حُلَفَاءَهُ عَلَى إِخْوَانِهِ حَتَّى يَتَسَافَكُوا دِمَاءَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ.
٨٦١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا حَمْدَانُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْبَصْرِيُّ- يَعْنِي الْبُسْرِيَّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ- يَعْنِي غُنْدَر- ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ فِي قَيْسِ بْنِ خَطِيمٍ: ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ هَؤُلاءِ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ تَظَاهَرُونَ عليهم بالإثم والعدوان «٣» .
