The sixth view:
899 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from al-Nadr ibn 'Arabi, from 'Ikrimah, regarding: "Our hearts are wrapped [ghulf]", he said: There is a seal upon them.
His saying: "Nay, Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so little is that which they believe."
900 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding: "so little is that which they believe", he said: Only a few of them believe.
His saying: "And when there came to them a Book from Allah"
901 - Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Munadi informed us in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Shayban al-Nahwi narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And when there came to them a Book from Allah", he said: It is the Furqan [the Criterion] which Allah sent down upon Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from al-Rabi' something similar.
His saying: "confirming what is with them"
902 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas: "confirming what is with them" of the Torah and the Gospel. And likewise did Qatadah interpret it.
His saying: "And they were, from before, seeking victory over those who disbelieved"

903 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And they were, from before, seeking victory over those who disbelieved", he said: They were seeking help [saying]: We will aid Muhammad against them. And they are not as such; they are lying. And it was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas: They were seeking victory through him against the people.
And the second view:
904 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And they were, from before, seeking victory over those who disbelieved", he said: They used to say that a Prophet would surely come; so when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it.

الْوَجْهُ السَّادِسُ:
٨٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو الأَوْدِيُّ ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ: قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌ قَالَ عَلَيْهَا طَابَعٌ.
قَوْلُهُ: بَلْ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَقَلِيلا مَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
٩٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ، أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ «١» أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ:
فَقَلِيلا مَا يُؤْمِنُونَ قَالَ: لَا يُؤْمِنُ مِنْهُمْ إِلا قَلِيلٌ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ
٩٠١ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُنَادِي فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا شَيْبَانُ النَّحْوِيُّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: هُوَ الْفُرْقَانُ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَولُهُ: مُصَدِّقٌ لِمَا مَعَهُمْ
٩٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّعْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ: مُصَدِّقٌ لِمَا مَعَهُمْ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ- وَكَذَا فَسَّرَهُ قَتَادَةُ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَكَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

٩٠٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابٌ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرٌ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: فِي قَوْلِهِ وَكَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قَالَ:
يَسْتَظْهِرُونَ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ نُعِينُ مُحَمَّدًا عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلَيْسُوا كَذَلِكَ يَكْذِبُونَ.
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ: يَسْتَنْصِرُونَ بِهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ.
