His saying: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein"
1110 - It was mentioned from Salamah, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: That Quraysh prevented the Prophet (peace be upon him) from praying near the Ka'bah in the Sacred Mosque, so Allah revealed: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein."
1111 - Muhammad ibn Sa'id reported to us, in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein," he said: They are the Christians.
1112 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein and strives toward their destruction" - [they are] the Christians; they used to throw filth into Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) and prevent people from praying in it.
His saying: "and strives toward their destruction"
[The first interpretation]
1113 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "and strives toward their destruction," he said: It is Nebuchadnezzar and his companions; he destroyed Bayt al-Maqdis, and the Christians aided him in that. And something similar was narrated from al-Hasan and al-Suddi.
The second interpretation:
1114 - My father narrated to me, 'Amr ibn 'Uthman ibn Sa'id ibn Kathir ibn Dinar narrated to us, Damrah narrated to us, from Abu 'Uthman, a preacher of the people of Jordan: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein and strives toward their destruction," he said: Its destruction is the killing of its people.
His saying: "It is not for them to enter it except in fear"
[The first interpretation]
1115 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Musa ibn Ibrahim al-Mu'allim Abu 'Ali al-Judhami narrated to us, the custodian of Bayt al-Maqdis narrated to me, from Dhu al-Kala', from Ka'b, who said: When the Christians overcame Bayt al-Maqdis, they burned it. When Allah sent Muhammad, He revealed to him: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents [from] the mosques of Allah that His name be mentioned therein and strives toward their destruction. It is not for them to enter it except in fear." Thus, there is no Christian on earth who enters Bayt al-Maqdis except in fear.
