His saying: "And they said, 'Allah has taken a son.' Exalted is He."
1125 - Al-'Abbas ibn Yazid al-'Abdi narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray', narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And they said, 'Allah has taken a son.' Exalted is He," he said: When they say slander about Him, He declares Himself exalted (subhana) above it.
1126 - Al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Hawdhah narrated to us, 'Awf narrated to us, from Ghalib ibn 'Ajrad, a man from the people of al-Sham narrated to me in the mosque of Mina, he said: It has reached me that when Allah created what is in the earth of trees—and there were no trees on earth—the children of Adam would come to them and derive benefit from them, or they would have benefit in them. The earth and the trees remained thus until the wicked among the children of Adam spoke that great word, by their saying: "Allah has taken a son." When they spoke it, the earth shuddered and the trees became thorny. Its interpretation has already preceded.
His saying: "Exalted is He"
1127 - My father narrated to me, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, Abu Malik—meaning 'Amr ibn Hashim al-Janbi—narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "Exalted is He" (Subhanahu), he says: Subhana means amazement.
His saying: "Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. All are devoutly obedient to Him."
It is differed upon in its interpretation in several aspects.
[The first aspect]
1128 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb informed us, 'Amr ibn al-Harith informed me that Darraj Abu al-Shaykh narrated to him, from Abu al-Haytham, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who said: Every letter in the Qur'an where qunut (devout obedience) is mentioned, it means obedience.
1129 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "All are devoutly obedient to Him," meaning: obedient. He says: The obedience of the disbeliever in his prostration is the prostration of his shadow, while he is averse.
1130 - 'Ali ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Salih narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Khusayf, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "All are devoutly obedient to Him," he said: obedient. [He says]: Be a human, and he was. And He says: Be a donkey, and he was.
