1138 - It was mentioned from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, Zunayj narrated to us, Abu Zuhayr narrated to us, Juwaybir narrated to us, from al-Dahhak, who said: "He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is." This is from the language of the foreigners (al-a'ajim). In Hebrew, it is: 'Asna' (I create).
1139 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd ibn 'Atiyyah informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to us, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "He says to it, 'Be,' and it is," he said: It is the creation of man.
His saying: "And those who do not know say, 'Why does Allah not speak to us or there comes to us a sign?'"
There is disagreement regarding its interpretation in several aspects:
[The First Aspect]
One of them is that they are the Jews.
1140 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: The freed slave of the family of Zayd—meaning Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad—narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah, or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Rafi' ibn Huraymilah said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "O Muhammad, if you are a messenger from Allah as you claim, then tell Allah to speak to us so that we may hear His speech." Allah revealed regarding that His saying: "And those who do not know say, 'Why does Allah not speak to us or there comes to us a sign?'"
The Second Aspect:
They are the Arab polytheists.
1141 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "Why does Allah not speak to us or there comes to us a sign?" He said: It is the statement of the Arab polytheists. It was narrated from Qatadah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly.
The Third Aspect:
1142 - al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, from Warqa', from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And those who do not know say, 'Why does Allah not speak to us or there comes to us a sign?'" They are the Christians who say it.
His saying: "Why does Allah not speak to us"
1143 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Why does Allah not speak to us?" They said: Why does Allah not speak to us?
