The Second View:
1166 - 'Imran ibn Bakkar al-Barrad al-Himsi narrated to us, al-Rabi' ibn Rawh narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Harb narrated to us, al-Zubaydi narrated to us, from 'Adi, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: No one was tested with this religion and performed it entirely except for Abraham: "And when his Lord tested Abraham with words, and he fulfilled them." I said to him: And what are the words with which Abraham was tested and which he fulfilled? He said: Islam is thirty shares; ten verses in [Surah] Bara'ah: "The repentant, the worshippers..." to the end of the verse. And ten verses at the beginning of Surah: "Certainly will the believers have succeeded" and "A questioner asked concerning a punishment bound to happen," and ten verses in [Surah] al-Ahzab: "Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women..." to the end of the verse. So he fulfilled them all, and [Allah] wrote for him innocence (bara'ah). Allah said: "And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations]."
The Third View:
And it is one of the sayings from Ibn 'Abbas:
1167 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the mawla of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Abi, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, or 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The words with which Abraham was tested and fulfilled were: his separation from his people for the sake of Allah when he was ordered to separate from them, his debating with Nimrod for the sake of Allah until he confronted him with what he confronted him with regarding the seriousness of the matter in which they differed, his patience in being cast into the fire to be burned for the sake of Allah despite the terror of that from their affair, his migration after that from his homeland and his lands for the sake of Allah when He ordered him to leave them, what He ordered him regarding hospitality and patience with it, his wealth, and what he was tested with in the slaughter of his son when He ordered him to slaughter him. When he fulfilled all of that from the command of Allah and rendered his trial sincere, Allah said to him: "Submit," he said: "I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds," regarding what there was of people's disagreement and their separation.
The Fourth View:
And it is one of the sayings from Ibn 'Abbas:
1168 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, Ibn Lahi'ah informed me, from Ibn Hubayrah, from Hanash ibn 'Abd Allah al-San'ani, from Ibn 'Abbas: that he used to say regarding this verse: "And when his Lord tested Abraham with words, and he fulfilled them," he said: O people, six are in the human [body] and four are in the rituals. As for those in the human [body]: shaving the pubic hair, plucking the underarm hair, circumcision—Ibn Hubayrah used to say: these three are one—clipping the nails, trimming the mustache, the siwak, and the bath of Friday.
