For you, a hidden secret." He said: "You have hidden for me, O Lord, that You are making me an Imam for the people?" He said: "Yes, and that You will raise up in my nation a Messenger from among them who will recite to them Your verses, and teach them the Book and Wisdom, and purify them." He said: "Yes." So Allah completed that for him.
His statement: "And he fulfilled them"
1173 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "And he fulfilled them," meaning he acted upon them. It was narrated from Qatadah and al-Rabi' something similar.
His statement: "I will make you an Imam for the people"
1174 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad al-'Asqalani narrated to us there, Adam ibn Abi Iyas narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, and his statement: "I will make you an Imam for the people," so Allah made him an Imam to be followed and emulated. It was narrated from al-Hasan, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, Qatadah, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas something similar.
His statement: "And of my descendants"
1175 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, or 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And of my descendants," he said: "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers," informing him that there would be a wrongdoer among his descendants who would not attain His covenant, and it is not appropriate for Him to entrust him with any of His affairs, even if they are from the descendants of His Khalil (Friend/Abraham). And whoever is a doer of good, his prayer will be fulfilled regarding him, and he will reach in him what he wished in his request.
1176 - 'Amr ibn Thawr al-Qaysari informed us, in what he wrote to me, al-Firyabi narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, Simak ibn Harb narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Allah said to Abraham—peace and blessings be upon him: "I will make you an Imam for the people." He said: "And of my descendants?" He refused to do so, then said: "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers."
1177 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, he said: So Abraham said: "O Lord, and of my descendants?" He means: "Make from my descendants one who will be followed and emulated." He says: "Not all of your descendants, O Abraham, are upon the truth."
لَكَ خَبِيئَةً قَالَ: خَبَّأْتَ لِي يَا رَبُّ أَنَّكَ جَاعِلِي لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، وَأَنَّكَ بَاعِثٌ فِي أُمَّتِي رَسُولا مِنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ. قَالَ:
نَعَمْ. فَأَتَمَّ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ.
قوله: فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ
١١٧٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ ثنا آدَمُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ:
فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ، أَيْ عَمِلَ بِهِنَّ. وَرُوِيَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، وَالرَّبِيعِ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا
١١٧٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ الْعَسْقَلانِيُّ بِهَا ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ وَقَوْلُهُ: إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا فَجَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِمَامًا يُؤْتَمُّ وَيُقْتَدَى بِهِ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَعَطَاءٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ وَقَتَادَةَ وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي
١١٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، أَوْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي قَالَ: لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدِي الظَّالِمِينَ يُخْبِرُهُ أَيْ أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ظَالِمٌ لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدَهُ وَلا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُوَلِّيَهُ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ خَلِيلِهِ وَمُحْسِنٌ سَتَنْفُذُ فِيهِ دَعْوَتُهُ وَيَبْلُغُ فِيهِ مَا أَرَابَ مِنْ مَسْأَلَتِهِ.
١١٧٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَوْرٍ الْقَيْسَارِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ ثنا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَالَ: قَالَ اللَّهُ لإِبْرَاهِيمَ- عَلَيْهِ الصَّلاةُ وَالسَّلامُ-: إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا قَالَ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي فَأَبَى أَنْ يَفْعَلَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدِي الظَّالِمِينَ
١١٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ ثنا آدَمُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ: فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: يَا رَبِّ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي يَقُولُ: اجْعَلْ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي، مَنْ يُؤْتَمُّ بِهِ وَيُقْتَدَى بِهِ. يَقُولُ: لَيْسَ كُلُّ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَى حَقٍّ.
