'What will you worship after me?' They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac.'
He says: Neither the Jews, nor the Christians, nor any of the people witnessed Jacob when he took the covenant from his sons as death approached him, that they would worship none but Him. So they affirmed that, and he bore witness against them that they had affirmed their worship and that they were Muslims.
1280 - 'Ali ibn Tahir narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala'—meaning Abu Kurayb—narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "We will worship," meaning: We will affirm the oneness [of Allah].
His statement: "They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac'"
1281 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr, from 'Ata', who said: I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: The grandfather is a father, and Ibn 'Abbas recited: "They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac.'"
1282 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding: "When death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, 'What will you worship after me?' They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac,'" for he named his uncle a father.
1283 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, Musa ibn 'Ubaydah informed me, who said: I heard Muhammad ibn Ka'b saying: The maternal uncle is a parent, and the paternal uncle is a parent. He said: "'What will you worship after me?' They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers,'" to the end of the verse.
His statement: "One God"
1284 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from 'Ata', regarding: "One God," he said: He is one God, the God of everything, and the Creator of everything.
His statement: "And we are Muslims in submission to Him"
1285 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to me, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "Muslims [in submission]," he says: Monotheists [who affirm His oneness].
His statement: "That is an ummah [nation] which has passed on"
1286 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat ibn Nasr, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His statement: "That," meaning: this [one].
مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِي قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ
قَالَ: يَقُولُ: لَمْ يَشْهَدِ الْيَهُودُ وَلا النَّصَارَى وَلا أَحَدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ يَعْقُوبَ، إِذْ أَخَذَ عَلَى بَنِيهِ الْمِيثَاقَ، إِذْ حَضَرَهُ الْمَوْتُ أَنْ لا يعبدوا إلا إياه فَأَقَرُّوا بِذَلِكَ، وَشَهِدَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ قَدْ أَقَرُّوا بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ، وَأَنَّهُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ.
١٢٨٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ طَاهِرٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ- يَعْنِي أَبَا كُرَيْبٍ- ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: نَعْبُدُ يَعْنِي نُوَحِّدُ.
قَوْلُهُ: قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ
١٢٨١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: الْجَدُّ أَبٌ وَيَتْلُو ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ: قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ
١٢٨٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ ثنا آدَمُ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ:
إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوبَ الْمَوْتُ إِذْ قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِي قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ فَسَمَّى عَمَّهُ أَبَاهُ.
١٢٨٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ كَعْبٍ يَقُولُ: الْخَالُ وَالِدٌ، وَالْعَمُّ وَالِدٌ،: قَالَ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِي قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ وَإِلَهَ آبَائِكَ إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِلَهًا وَاحِدًا
١٢٨٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ ثنا شِبْلٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ إِلَهًا وَاحِدًا قَالَ: إِنَّهُ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَإِلَهُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، وَخَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ
١٢٨٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مُسْلِمِينَ يَقُولُ: مُوَحِّدِينَ.
قَوْلُهُ: تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ
١٢٨٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي مُوسَى ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَسْبَاطِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ قَوْلُهُ: تِلْكَ يَعْنِي هذه.
