The Christians said the same, so Allah revealed regarding them: "And they said, 'Be Jews or Christians, so you will be guided.'"
His statement: "Say, 'Rather, [we follow] the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth, and he was not among the polytheists.'"
It is differed upon regarding its interpretation in several aspects:
[The First Aspect]
One of them is:
1291 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih—the scribe of al-Layth—narrated to me, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Inclining toward truth (hanifan)" he says: Performing pilgrimage (hajj). Similar to this was narrated from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, 'Atiyyah, and al-Suddi.
The Second Aspect:
1292 - My father narrated to us, Qabisah and 'Isa ibn Ja'far both said: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "Inclining toward truth (hanifan)" he said: Following (muttabi'an). Similar to this was narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas.
The Third Aspect:

Abu Sakhr said: From 'Isa ibn Jariyah, I heard him saying the same.
