1293 - ...Salih narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Abu Sakhr, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b: "Inclining toward truth (hanifan)" he said: The Hanif is the upright one. Abu Sakhr said: From 'Isa ibn Jariyah, I heard him saying the same.
The Fourth Aspect:
1294 - Al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Abu Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, from Abu Qutaybah al-Basri—who is Nu'aym ibn Thabit—from Abu Qilabah regarding His statement: "Inclining toward truth (hanifan)," he said: The Hanif is the one who believes in all the messengers from their first to their last.
The Fifth Aspect:
1295 - My father narrated to us, al-Nufayli narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Khusayf regarding His statement: "Inclining toward truth (hanifan)," he said: The Hanif is the sincere one.
The Sixth Aspect:
1296 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah al-Dashtaki narrated to us, Abu Ja'far informed us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, who said: The Hanif is the one who faces the House (the Ka'bah) in his prayer, and believes that his pilgrimage is incumbent upon him if he finds a way to it.
The Seventh Aspect:
1297 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah (1) who said: The Hanifiyyah is the testimony that there is no god but Allah. Included in it are the prohibition of (marrying) mothers, daughters, maternal aunts, and paternal aunts, and what Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, has prohibited, and circumcision. The Hanifiyyah existed during the time of idolatry: they were the people of idolatry, yet they would prohibit in their idolatry (marrying) mothers, daughters, maternal aunts, and paternal aunts, and they would perform pilgrimage to the House and perform the rites.
His statement: "Say, 'We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Jacob.'"
1298 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Sa'id ibn Ibrahim, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, who said: The Jews used to come to the companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and narrate to them, and they (the companions) would praise (Allah). They mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said: "Do not confirm them, and do not deny them, but say: 'We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Jacob.'"
