[His saying: The Most Merciful, the Ever Merciful]

Its explanation has already preceded.

His saying: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day."

1465 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Umar al-Zuhri al-Asbahani (Rusta) narrated to us, Ibn Mahdi (meaning: 'Abd al-Rahman) narrated to us, from Ya'qub ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ash'ari, from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Quraysh said to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Supplicate to Allah that He makes al-Safa gold for us, so that we may strengthen ourselves by it against our enemy." So Allah revealed to him: "I will give it to them, and I will make al-Safa gold for them, but if they disbelieve after that, I will punish them with a punishment that I will not punish anyone else in the worlds." He then said: "My Lord, leave me and my people, that I may call them day by day." Then Allah revealed this verse: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day and the ships which sail through the sea" until His saying: "...those of understanding." How can they ask you for al-Safa when they see signs that are greater than al-Safa?

His saying: "And the alternation of the night and the day."

1466 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Karim informed us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn Ma'qil narrated to me that he heard his uncle, Wahb ibn Munabbih, say: 'Uzayr, peace be upon him, said: "O Allah, by Your Word You created all Your creation, and it came to be according to Your will. You did not experience any burden in it, nor did You become weary from it. Your Throne was upon the water, and darkness was upon the air, and the angels were bearing Your Throne and glorifying You with Your praise, and the creation was obedient to You, humbled by the fear of You. No light was seen in it except Your light, and no sound was heard in it except that which You made audible. Then You opened the treasure of light and the rarities of wisdom, so they became night and day, alternating by Your command."

His saying, the Almighty and Majestic: "And the ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people."

1467 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, from Isra'il, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik: Regarding "the ships" (al-fulk), he said: The vessel. It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr similarly.
