1595 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Abu Salih regarding: "And for you in retribution is life" - he said: Permanence.

It was reported from al-Suddi and al-Thawri similarly.

1596 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, Hammu ibn Nuh al-Balkhi narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh Khalid ibn Sulayman al-Huddani narrated to us, Abu Nasr ibn Musharis narrated to us, from al-Dahhak regarding his saying: "And for you in retribution is life" - meaning: by [this] life is righteousness and justice.

His saying: "O people of understanding"

1597 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "O people of understanding" - meaning: whoever has intellect or reasoning, he remembers the retribution, and the fear of the retribution restrains him from killing.

It was reported from Abu Malik, al-Dahhak, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly.

[His saying: "That you may become righteous"]

[The first interpretation]

And through the same chain from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "That you may become righteous" - that you may fear the world out of fear of retribution. It was reported from Abu Malik and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly.

The second interpretation:

It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Wahb informed us, al-Layth ibn Sa'd informed me, from Rabi'ah that he said regarding the saying of Allah: "And for you in retribution is life, O people of understanding, that you may become righteous" - he says: That you may fear the forbidden things that I have prohibited some of you regarding others.

His saying, the Exalted: "It is prescribed for you when death approaches one of you"

1598 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding his saying: "It is prescribed for you when death approaches one of you" - he said: Yes, a bequest is a right upon every Muslim that he should make a bequest when death approaches, [made] with goodness, not with evil.

His saying: "If he leaves wealth"
