[His saying: "Those are upon guidance from their Lord"]

84 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr informed us, and Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Those are upon guidance from their Lord," meaning upon a light from their Lord and steadfastness upon what has come to them.
And the second interpretation:
85 - My father narrated to us, Abu Harun al-Bakka' narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Dinar, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "Those are upon guidance from their Lord," he said: Upon clear evidence from their Lord.
His saying, exalted is He: "And it is those who are the successful"
86 - My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Uthman ibn Salih al-Misri narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from Abu al-Haytham—whose name is Sulayman ibn 'Abd—from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, from the Prophet (peace be upon him). It was said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, we read from the Quran and we are on the verge of despair," or as he said. He replied: "Shall I not tell you about the people of Paradise and the people of Hell?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "'Alif-Lam-Mim. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah'—up to his saying—'the successful,' these are the people of Paradise." They said: "We hope that we are them." Then he said: "'Indeed, those who disbelieve—it is all the same for them'—up to his saying—'great punishment,' these are the people of Hell." They asked: "Are we not them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Indeed."
87 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad ibn al-Jarrah al-'Asqalani narrated to us, Adam ibn Abi Iyas narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, who said: These four verses from the beginning of the Surah are regarding the believers.
88 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And it is those who are the successful," meaning those who have attained what they sought and have been saved from the evil of that which they fled from.

٨٤ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، وثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: فِيمَا حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ أَوْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: أُولَئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ أَيْ عَلَى نُورٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ، وَاسْتِقَامَةٍ عَلَى مَا جَاءَهُمْ.

٨٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو هَارُونَ الْبَكَّاءُ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أُولَئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ قَالَ: عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
٨٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْهَيْثَمِ- وَاسْمُهُ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدٍ- عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ: إِنَّا نَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فَنَكَادُ أَنْ نَيْأَسَ «١» - أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ: فَقَالَ- أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَأَهْلِ النَّارِ؟
قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. فَقَالَ: الم ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ- إِلَى قَوْلِهِ- الْمُفْلِحُونَ هَؤُلاءِ أَهْلُ الجنة. قالوا إنا نرجو أَنْ نَكُونَ هَؤُلاءِ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ- إِلَى قَوْلِهِ- عَظِيمٌ هَؤُلاءِ أَهْلُ النَّارِ، لَسْنَا هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ: أَجَلْ.
٨٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادِ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ الْعَسْقَلانِيُّ، ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ: هَذِهِ الأَرْبَعُ الآيَاتِ مِنْ فَاتِحَةِ السُّورَةِ- فِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
٨٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو زُنَيْجٌ ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ فِيمَا حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ أَوْ سَعِيدِ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ أَيِ الَّذِينَ أَدْرَكُوا مَا طَلَبُوا، وَنَجَوْا مِنْ شر ما منه هربوا.
