89 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding: "And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]"—these are the believers from the People of the Scripture. Then he grouped the two parties together.
His saying: "Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful"
90 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding: "Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful," he said: A people who deserved guidance and success by right, so Allah affirmed it for them, and this is the description of the people of faith.
His saying, exalted is He: "Indeed, those who disbelieve—it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them—[they] will not believe"
91 - My father narrated to me, Yahya ibn 'Uthman ibn Salih al-Misri narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from Abu al-Haytham, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, from the Prophet (peace be upon him): It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, we read from the Quran and we hope, and we read and we are on the verge of despair." He replied: "Shall I not tell you?" Then he said: "'Indeed, those who disbelieve—it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them—[they] will not believe,' these are the people of the Fire." They asked: "Are we not them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Indeed."
92 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Indeed, those who disbelieve," meaning in what has been revealed to you, even if they say that they have believed in what came to us before you. "It is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them—[they] will not believe," meaning that they have disbelieved in what they possess of your mention and denied the covenant that was taken from them; thus they have disbelieved in what has come to you, and in what they possess of that which others besides you brought to them. How, then, would they listen to your warning and cautioning when they have already disbelieved in what they possess of your knowledge?
93 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad ibn al-Jarrah narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, who said: There are two verses regarding the leaders of the confederates (al-ahzab) in "Indeed, those who disbelieve—it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them—[they] will not believe." He said: They are those whom Allah mentioned in this verse: "Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?"
