Translation · EN

Ibn Sirin, from ‘Ubaydah al-Salmani, from ‘Ali who said: "Whoever reaches Ramadan while he is resident, then travels afterward, fasting is incumbent upon him, because Allah the Exalted says: 'So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it.'"

It was narrated from ‘Aishah, Ibn ‘Umar, Ibn ‘Abbas, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, ‘Ubaydah, Ibn al-Hanafiyyah, Khaythamah, Suwayd ibn Ghafalah, ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i, Mujahid, al-Sha‘bi, Abu Mijlaz, al-Suddi, and the like of that.

1657 - Muhammad ibn Isma‘il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from ‘Aishah, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) departed from Medina while he was fasting during the month of Ramadan, and when he came to Qudayd, he broke his fast, and he remained fasting-broken (not fasting) until he entered Mecca."

1658 - My father narrated to me, Yahya ibn Sulayman al-Ju‘fi narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn al-Harith informed me, from Bukayr ibn al-Ashajj, from Yazid, the freed slave of Salamah, from Salamah ibn al-Akwa‘, that he said: "We were in Ramadan during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him); whoever wished fasted, and whoever wished broke his fast and redeemed it by feeding a poor person, until the verse was revealed: 'So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it.'"

1659 - Al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid narrated to us, from Dawud, from al-Sha‘bi, who said: "If two matters become confusing to you, then look at the easier of them, for it is closer to the truth; indeed, Allah intended ease for this nation and did not intend hardship for them."
